Systems change workshop

This workshop is based upon our systems change framework. The will help to build a shared vision for systemic change, explore the current organizational reality using systems thinking, and collaboratively design high-leverage interventions and quantified action plans for lasting impact—especially in the context of sustainability, innovation, and long-term growth.

Workshop objectives

By participating in this workshop, participants will achieve the following objectives:

  • Build a shared vision, purpose and values: Create a shared vision and purpose that aligns with the collective goals, aspirations, and values of the team.

  • Map current reality: Map the current reality using systems thinking tools such as iceberg model and causal loop diagrams.

  • Challenge the mental modelsChallenge deep-rooted beliefs and challenge limiting assumptions.

  • Intervention design and quantified goal setting: Design interventions and set quantified goals for achieving the vision, ensuring that progress can be tracked and measured.

  • Action: Create quantified action plans to achieve individual set goals.

Module 1

Co-creating the shared vision

Build individual vision

  • Creative tension: Before building shared vision, articulate individual visions. Who we are? What we want? Why are we in the organization? What kind of future we desire? Feel the creative tension between the vision and current reality.

Build shared vision

  • Why shared vision: Understand the importance of a shared vision in aligning teams toward a common future.

  • What is a shared vision: Learn what a shared vision entails and how it connects the collective aspirations, goals, and values of the organization.

  • Build a shared vision:

    • To build a new vision: Build a shared vision with all stakeholders involved.

    • For existing vision: If the vision is already present, discuss and articulate the vision and understand the significance of the vision to achieve organizational goals.

Module 2

Purpose and values

Shared purpose and values

  • Sense the purpose: Understand together what the company is here to do?

  • Create and imbibe the values: Create the values and understand how they will guide to reach the vision.

Module 3

Mapping the current reality

Understand the visible and invisible forces in the system

  • Iceberg model: Events -> Patterns -> Structures -> Mental Models

  • Systemic shift: Shift attention from events to structure and process.

Module 4

Systems mapping  and causal loops

Discover feedback loops and leverage points

  • Casual loop diagrams: Learn basics of causal loop diagrams such as variables, connections, polarity and feedback loops.

  • Systems mapping: Team-based systems mapping of current organizational dynamics.

  • Discussion: Where are the biggest opportunities to shift the system?

Module 5

Mental models and assumptions

Challenge deep-rooted beliefs and challenge limiting assumptions

  • Mental models: Understand the mental models, how they influence systems.

  • Challenge mental models: Reflective questioning and scenario analysis.

Module 6

Identifying interventions

Design high-leverage actions to shift the system

  • Interventions at the leverage points: Simulation game to identify interventions based on leverage points.

  • Rank interventions: Prioritize using impact-effort matrix.

Module 7

Set quantified goals

Translate the shared vision into measurable targets

  • OKRAs: Define objectives, key results, and key result areas.

Module 8

Action plan

Create individual and team action plans

  • Quantified action plans: Develop action plans with timelines to achieve the quantified goals.

Tracker and accountability

  • Implement systems: Implement tools and systems to track progress and maintain accountability.

Module 9

Feedback loops and learning

Build mechanisms for gap analysis and sustainable growth.

  • Systemic tracking: How will we track, learn, and adapt?

  • Feedback rituals: Define feedback rhythms and rituals.

Module 10

Reflection and closing circle

Reflect, internalize, and commit

  • Circle sharing: What shifted for you today?

  • Vision wall: Final vision wall review.

  • Collective commitment: Team commitment to the vision and closing the gap between the vision and current reality.
